The Hospice Referral

| By Jodi Horton

Did you know that you don’t have to be a medical professional to make a hospice referral? Did you know you can refer yourself to hospice?

If someone you love is terminally ill and possibly within the last six months of life, hospice care might be the right option. Individuals often choose to discuss it with their primary care practitioner, but it’s not a requirement. Any individual can call a hospice and request information about services or an evaluation by a hospice representative. If you choose hospice care, the hospice will obtain the necessary paperwork from your physician.

Take charge of your healthcare needs, and learn about your options. Hospice care can be a difficult topic to discuss, but a hospice representative can answer all of your questions regarding services and the end of life process. Requesting information or a hospice evaluation does not mean you have to commit to signing up for hospice care.

If you or someone you know is in the Pima County area and seeking information about hospice care, please call our office at (520) 544-9890.
