Compassion with Me Always

| By Meredith Ford

A poem for caregivers by Tanya Bursey, Social Worker for Casa de la Luz

I shall miss caring for you…

I shall miss helping you do the things your body no longer lets you do.

I shall miss your spirit, feisty and cantankerous; your kindness and words of wisdom…

The weight of you in my arms.

That special understanding we had even though you could not speak.

I shall miss looking into your eyes, knowing that you were always only a heartbeat away from leaving.

I know that in some small way I have given you comfort when your visitors left…or, never came.

Know this…in my heart I have learned from you, lessons I never knew I needed…

…until now.

Because of you I shall carry deeper understanding and compassion with me…
